We are happy to announce this recently curated Blue Zone Escape for our valued guests. We are nestled on the Nicoya peninsula of Costa Rica, one of five of the worlds Blue Zones and the only Blue Zone in beautiful places in Central America. The average life expectancy in Nicoya is 80 years (it’s 76.4 years in the U.S.) This location has the world’s lowest rate of middle-age mortality. The Escape is scheduled at the beginning of the dry season at our corporate headquarters in Playa Potrero, Tempate, Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Being peacefully tucked in the coastal jungle only a few kilometers from the Pacific ocean beaches, this is the perfect place to vist and separate yourself from the demanding daily grind. When you visit our facility, you will become grounded and connected to the environment on an entirely new level.

Our quiet, serene and tranquil atmosphere is an excellent destination for relaxing beaches, ocean sunsets and peaceful jungle soundscapes.

The current schedule includes workshops, beach walks, jungle hikes, and visits to some of the areas most desireable attractions. Each week will have a unique experience, and we recommend planning for the entire three week excursion. Some of the attractions on the schedule include:

  • Diamante Eco Adventure Park: This adventure park offers an ocean view zipline, animal sanctuary, butterfly garden, botanical garden, horseback riding, ATV tours, cultural experience and ocean activities. This is a full day experience and we will manage all the details.
  • Hacienda El Viejo Wetlands: A family owned private reserve and sugar cane plantation offers cultural, wildlife and rum tours. Learn about the Guanacaste culture and traditions. This 1 hour tour will be combined with other experiences making a full day of relaxation.
  • Rincon de la Vieja National Park: A lush national park, home to an active volcano and dry tropical forest, includes a hike in the park to waterfalls or the boiling mud pots. The 2 hours drive each way will be packaged with complimentary massage, sauna, sound journey with Tibetan Singing Bowls and Gongs, all preceded by a locally grown and prepared dinner.
  • Tamarindo: Visit this surf town to take a surf lesson, shop and enjoy a lively evening dinner and happy hour.

Driving

Easily drive to Potrero from both Liberia and San Jose.

From Guanacaste Airport, Potrero is about a 1 hour drive going by Route 21, 155 and 180. This route is on a fully paved, main road. You can also take Route 911 if you are driving during the day. Please note there are two river crossings on this route but between the hours of 8 AM to 5 PM, you can pay a fee to cross The Congo Trail property to avoid the rivers.

From San Jose, it is about a 4.5-6 hour drive, depending on the day and how many adventures taken along the way. We recommend to take Route 18 and 21 via the Taiwan Friendship Bridge and Nicoya. A 4×4 for this route is unnecessary, however there is usually a good amount of traffic on this route, plan accordingly.

Public Bus and Shuttles

A public bus is available daily from San Jose to Potrero, Playa Flamingo, Conchal and Brasilito at 8 AM, 1030 AM and 3 PM and leaves from Ave 5, Calle 20/22 with Empresa Tralapa. This is a 6 hours tour.

A public bus from Santa Cruz to Potrero departs daily at 3:40 AM, 530 AM, 6 AM, 9 AM, 9:50 AM, 11 AM, 12 PM, 230 PM, 5 PM, 640 PM and 730 PM and is a 2 hours ride.

Shared shuttles are available to Potrero. Check Interbus, Ride CR or Easy Ride. From San Jose, it is around $59 USD per person.

If a private shuttle from Guanacaste Airport to Potrero is more your style, for around $125 USD one way depending on number of passengers this is an option. From San Jose to Potrero the fee is around $370 USD one way depending on number of passengers.
